UNIT CREST
DESCRIPTION The International Special Operations Command (Flash Force) unit crest has served as the primary symbol of the unit since its inception in 1999. The crest consists of a shield-shaped field of navy blue. A stylized bolt of royal blue lightning streaks from the upper right corner of the shield to its lower left side. Two silver stars grace the upper left corner of the field, while one more is displayed below the lightning bolt on the opposite corner. In traditional heraldic terms, the unit crest is described as follows:
SYMBOLOGY The shield, itself a traditional symbol for protection and safety, respresents the protective nature and missions of the unit. The deep (navy) blue color stands for an abiding loyalty, unity, and faith in the team and its members. The lightning bolt symbolizes the swift might that the unit may bring to bear upon those who would threaten or harm others, while its royal blue color represents the ideal of excellence for which the team eternally strives. The stars, as symbols of enlightenment, individually symbolize justice, wisdom, and compassion--the standards by which all unit actions must be judged. The silver color of these stars represents purity of thought, word, and deed. UTILIZATION As the symbol of the unit's highest ideals, adaptations of the unit crest have been authorized for use upon the face of all unit headgear. This location is considered a position of honor as it is featured prominently upon the highest point of the uniform. The unit crest is also featured proudly upon unit webpages, official unit letterhead, and other official unit documents. |
