HELP SECURE THE FUTURE Our vision of a dedicated U.S.-based counter-terrorist organization was first introduced a number of years ago, in the spring of 1999. At that time, it seemed inevitable that some type of international terrorist act would be committed on U.S. soil, but no one ever imagined that terrorists would strike so soon and on such a large scale. Yet just two years later, on September 11, 2001, thousands of innocent men, women, and children were killed in a number of well-planned and carefully orchestrated terrorist attacks. In retrospect, our creation of a "United States Department of Counter-Terrorism" seems almost prophetic. In a sweeping reorganization of many existing executive agencies, on January 24, 2003, the United States government established the "Department of Homeland Security" (DHS). With the exception of its name, this new department effectively mirrored our own fictitious organization. The realization that a real-world equivalent, had it been created at the same time as ours, might somehow have averted the tragic losses that day is disheartening at best. As much as we might wish it to do more, Flash Force has contributed in only small ways to the real-life war on terrorism. We encourage our members to learn more about modern security issues, better prepare themselves and their families for emergencies and times of crisis, and to contribute positively to their communities. We have provided support and encouragement to the outstanding members of our military services, both at home and abroad. Finally, we have sparked the interest of some of our younger members in public service. Several of these fine young people have moved on to become the real-world military and public safety professionals who will carry the torch of hope forward. Even if we had been able to provide the inspiration for just one such young person to succeed in that achievement, then our efforts here would have been more than worthwhile. Since its initial publication on the Internet in 1999, our website has logged thousands of visitors and expanded to include thousands of pages and images. "Flash Force" has enlisted over three hundred members and its future remains bright. While a majority of our members have come from the United States, there are those who come from over a dozen other nations as well. We are continually seeking positive and highly-motivated individuals to join us in our efforts toward greater awareness of and preparedness to meet terrorism on all fronts--whether they may be scale or "real-world". If you know someone who is interested in special operations or action figures and values the teamwork, challenges, and opportunities that only membership in an elite unit may provide, please be sure to refer them to the public section of section of the Flash Force Website and, more specifically, our Recruiting Page. Finally, I would like to point out that our future security as a nation may only be achieved through a truly united effort. If we are to keep our families, our homes, and our communities safe, every citizen must become involved. Many dedicated men and women who have served or are currently serving in our armed forces have made great sacrifices for the cause of Freedom. It is now our turn. On September 11th, 2001 it became abundantly clear that there were those who would stop at nothing to see our precious "Light of Liberty" extinguished and cold. I have a very important message for them. That will never happen. The light is stronger than ever and it burns brilliantly in the heart of every soul who understands the true value of Freedom.
