BLACK HAWK PROJECT

UPDATE I

Wednesday 18 August, 1999 20:19:50 PDT

Greetings All!

W ell, my vacation is about over (only two more days) so progress will probably be slower, but here's what I've done so far:

F irst I drew a "scale" (quotation marks included because this sure ain't an exact science--at least not as far as I'm concerned) profile of the bird on wrapping paper. The sucker was about 9' long! DDIRDOC Benton (Lightning 4) took a look and wondered how I was gonna sneak this project by Mrs. 6 without taking a hit in the "relationship" department.

N ext I constructed the cargo and cockpit decks from 1/4" hardboard (like particle board only with finer grain). I added a rear cargo area bulkhead, avionics/control console, and pilot seats. Lightning 4 and one of the Thunder Bay pilots check out my progress to this point (they were mighty skeptical about this thing shaping out to be anything more than fancy firewood).

I attached a cabin roof and some of the overhead structure on top of the cabin/cockpit area (1/8" hardboard) and am soaking some pre-cut panels for the exerior panels.

F inally, I drilled holes in the control console and panel for lighting (which I will add later), then printed out some decals to affix on the panels for the displays.

T hat's about all for now. I hope to have a bit more done in the next few days. I'll keep you all posted!
