WHERE IS THE VALUE?

Several years ago when I published my first few diorama pictures on the Internet, I never could have imagined just how far they would take me. As a result of those first early images I've managed to develop a sizeable website, organize a thriving hobby group, and make hundreds of new friends. I also can't help but feel that the journey is just beginning and look eagerly forward to whatever new opportunities may lie ahead.

In contemplating the future, I suppose it is only natural that I find myself considering the past as well. The support I have received for my work has been overwhelmingly positive over the years, but there are always a few who fail to understand or appreciate my passion for my hobby. They just don't see the true value of what I do and wonder what I have gained from the effort.

Besides having a lighter checkbook and a garage full of half-finished projects, I am very pleased to report that I have actually gained a great deal. I've learned about photography, computers, website development, and leadership. I've learned how to craft my own sixth-scale accessories and construct diorama sets. I've even gained knowledge in subjects that contribute positively to my career.

Finally, the hobby serves not only as a means for me to learn and positively direct my creative energies, it also serves to connect me with others who share similar interests. Through my association with Flash Force, I've met a growing number of outstanding people from all over the world. Their ages span the broad spectrum between what many consider to be young and old and they come from equally diverse stations in life. Some have professional military or public safety experience, but others do not. Regardless of their backgrounds, it continues to be my privilege and honor to consider them as my friends.

Since I first introduced Brigade Headquarters in 1999, there have been many who shared in my vision for the creation of a sixth-scale agency to combat the threats of terrorism. Most have joined us here and I am proud to serve with them today. More than that however, I have come to realize that if Flash Force was a real agency and its members were all on my tactical team, I would have every confidence in their ability to overcome challenge. I have no doubt that if it ever became necessary for me to send some serious lead downrange, I would readily trust any one of them to watch my back. I know that seems like a pretty bold statement to make, but it's true.

So where then, one might ask, do I find the greatest value in this whole effort? That's easy.

It's in the team.
